Apartment For Rent
In two weeks I'm moving out of what's been my home for the past three years. If you're a friend of mine (or a friend of a friend), mature and respectable, and are looking for a bachelor suite close to the University of Victoria, email me: my suite may be available to the right person.
Location
Top of Cedar Hill (about the same elevation as Mt. Tolmie), above the golf course, near Cedar Hill Rd. at Cedar Hill X Rd. A very quite, residential neighbourhood on a cul-de-sac, with the hilltop park as a backyard. Ten minute bike ride from UVic, five minute walk from major bus route #27/28 on Shelbourne to downtown. You know where Maude's Pub is? I walk there often.
Specs
Bachelor suite (bedroom and living room combined) on first floor of a two-story house
Private entrance and porch
Large windows in main room and kitchen
Indoor storage for bikes, covered parking spot
Full bathroom, kitchen and closet
Fully furnished
- Single bed
- Dresser
- Desk lamps
- Dish and glassware, utensils, microwave, kettle
- Kitchen table
- Deck chairs
Free, on-site laundry (share with landlady)
Backyard composting
Vacuum included
Wired for Shaw or Telus Internet
Renovated three years ago with new fridge, carpeting, linoleum.
Rent: ~$500 CDN incl. all utilities except phone, Internet and TV.
Description
The suite itself is very small, suitable only for one person with little or no furniture of his/her own. What really makes this place spectacular is the view, from your own private deck and from inside. I can see cruise ships in the inner harbour, the rolling hills of the Highlands. From the backyard you can see 360 degrees.
The landlady, a friend of my girlfriend's family, lives upstairs. She doesn't "need" to rent a place, she just likes having someone reliable in the suite. If it snows I have to shovel the driveway. She brings me cookies. Sometimes she hires me to haul or paint things. Parties aren't possible, but I've had groups of 10 or so friends over before; I just notify the landlady beforehand and she's OK with it.

Hi Jeff,
My name’s Cara, I stumbled across your apartment add during my search for the perfect place…it looks…well perfect! Close to school, great deck, affordable. Ok granted we aren’t friends, heck I’m not even a friend of a friend…but that could be simply situational…we haven’t met! Anyways I’m moving to Victoria for the first time after spending four cold winters in Edmonton going to U of A. I’m really looking forward to a change of scenery and some new adventures while completing my BA at UVIC. I’m responsible, courteous, environmentally conscious, and active (very willing/able to do things like shovel a walk or help out in any way). I would be great if you could consider me when renting out your place. As I said it sounds perfect for me, and (very) hopefully it could be perfect for you and the landlady as well.
Thanks Jeff,
Cara Jane

Hi there, My name is Aaron Patten and I'm a third year engineering student at UVic. Currently a Co-op job has me living in Parksville but I'll be moving back to Victoria for the end of april. I'm very interested in renting this appartment. I don't smoke I have no pets and I don't own a car. I am more than happy to help out around the place and am quite capable when it comes to doing such things. Please let me know if it would be possible for me to rent starting at the beginning of May.
A man may be very industrious, and yet not spend his time well. There is no more fatal blunderer than he who consumes the greater part of life getting his living.—Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)
