End of the line (almost)

Went to the desert oasis of Siwa after 4 days in Cairo. We weren’t able to get a lift to Bahariya, which meant a whole day of travelling back to Cairo, then a train south to Luxor, tout capital of the world. They must have a university in Luxor dedicated to the higher pursuit of hassling tourists. Temples are big in Egypt. And old. Defintley aliens. And heiroglyphs are cute and plentiful.
Quickly made our way south again to Aswan and its Nubian island villages and giant damns. The High Damn facts: 18x more material than the big pyramid; 35,000 people to build it in 11 years; 3.6km wide; 1 km thick; created world’s largest man-made lake. Unfortunetley, the damn ain’t as visually stunning in person as these facts are.
Spent two days on a feluca cruising back down the Nile to Kom Ombo, then overnight train back to Cairo and its cheap deserts and ice cream ice cream ice cream.
