Physical Backup Policy

In addition to monthly backups to my external 250GB drive, I’ve decided–as a worst-case-scenario kind of pre-emptive backup–to buy a second MacBook Pro 15″ laptop.
Just in case my first laptop gets stolen. Like, just in case I leave my laptop in my backpack somewhere and it gets swiped. Just in case I leave my first $2,500 MacBook Pro in my backpack in my friend’s locked trucked and we park it at a metered spot on a very public street in downtown Victoria and while we’re eating breakfast at a restaurant one block away at 11am and the truck gets broken into and my backpack, and laptop, get stolen, and I have major deadlines the next week: I’ll have a backup laptop.
I feel so much more secure now.

man, I wish I had money for another laptop. I “lost” mine while moving to Michigan, and freaked out a whole lot, but it just turned out that I packed in a box.
how are things? having a good summer I hope.

Too bad about your bag and laptop. If you want to wait a while before buying your new laptops you could use mine for a few weeks. I will not be needing it for some time.

I hope that whoever ends up with a nice one month old MacBook Pro 15″ laptop freaks out over the sticky mouse button. And maybe their battery will explode.

Damn. Damn. Damn. Those are like the two things I want most right now, SLR and a macbook. You are owed some Karma in a big way. Perhaps these car break ins have something to do with the new ‘bump keys’, or maybe those dont work for cars.
    bit on the bump keys:

I actually hope that the battery explodes on their lap.
Dude, I’m so sorry about your loss. I can’t believe that it was just right there.

Yeah I also hope that the battery explodes on them and leaks some kind of battery acid over whatever genetalia is near.

oh jeff! the thought of that happening makes me sick. You have the worst luck, if i was you i would buy some sort of laptop insurence (or get one of those new laptops that have the finger print security feature so it would be useless to anyone except yourself)

If you used VISA to purchase it, and you lost it within 90 days of purchase, I think VISA will replace it. My card has this on it (I think they all do):
    https://www.citizensbank.ca/Personal/Products/VISACards/SharedInterestVISA/
Almost anything you buy with your Citizens Bank Shared Interest VISA card will be repaired, replaced or reimbursed in the event of theft or damage within 90 days of purchase.

Jeff just told me – Visa purchase protection doesn’t protect against theft from automobiles. I couldn’t believe this and phoned Citizens Bank. It’s true!

    Ouch. That’s exceptionally harsh.
