AOOA
A beautiful game/experiment in web entertainment and interaction by a student of graphic design. These kind of short, Flash-based, artistic, mildly-challenging games are sort of a genre of their own online now.
Time
“On June 17th, every year, [this] family goes through a private ritual: [they] photograph [them]selves to stop a fleeting moment, the arrow of time passing by.” I’ve wanted to do something like, everyday, for one year. But this family’s scope surpasses.
Cold Turkey
Kurt Vonnegut is now 81 years old and recently wrote an opinion piece about Iraq, oil and our generation.
A dream of a 1,000-year camera
Whether Sam Raimi is serious about this or not, still interesting from a cultural theory and practical perspective.
Robocoaster
Using industrial robotic arms for fun. Watch the video. Makes me sick.
Army Ants Trapped by Their Evolutionary History
A student of evolutionary biology writes about how when a group of army ants get seperated from their collective will march in a circle until death. A quirky evolution glitch.
Japan Underground
Incredible photograph of the Super-Kamiokande Prefecture, as well as other shots of Japan’s underground by photographer Hideaki Uchiyama.
Orlan
Cosmetic surgery artist taking body modification to a challenging level. Also see article.
The Big Charade
New Canadian film. Watch trailer.
Fleep
One of the most unique and engrossing online comics I’ve ever read, “about a boy who wakes up in a telephone booth which has been mysteriously sealed in an envelope of concrete. Using only the contents of his pockets (two pens, a paperback novel, three coins and 20 ft of unwaxed dental floss) our hero must fashion and execute an escape plan before he runs out of oxygen.”
This Land
The most popular online animation at the moment, the Kerry/Bush parody.
Star Wars Kid
I can’t believe I missed this last year. A teen in Quebec makes a private video pretending to be a Star Wars warrior. Tape is found and released online. Inspiring in so many ways. Watch the original first then SWK 2.0.
Stamp cups
A good idea for your coffee stains.
Tall Buildings
An excellent online exhibit from the MOMA.
Google Circa 1960
