This has been going around online for a few days now, but I just found out you can pick a Kryptonite bike lock with a bic pen. You remove the cap from the end of the pen and insert it into the circular key entry in the lock, wiggle it a bunch and it opens. Well, so these videos here and here, articles here and here, would say, because I’m having trouble getting the end off my Bic just now…
Anyways, man, these were considered the standard in bicycle anti-theft. I sold them for years and I’ve used one for years. I use it almost everyday. Time for a new lock.
Update Sept. 22: Good article at Wired about this. And I tried with a couple different Bics on my own lock, couldn’t get it to work.
Update Sept. 22: Kryptonite will replace your lock for free. I’ve sent my email off, and am supposed to send my lock now, too, but won’t get a replacement until October. And what shall I do till then?
