Listened in 2006

Like Kottke’s recent post, the following are my 25 most played artists for 2006 as recorded by Last.fm, the website that tracks what I’m listening to in iTunes on my computer:

  1. Neko Case
  2. Thom Yorke
  3. The Postal Service
  4. Ted Leo and The Pharmacists
  5. Jon Brion
  6. M83
  7. Aphex Twin
  8. Silver Jews
  9. Final Fantasy
  10. Brian Eno
  11. Casiotone for the Painfully Alone
  12. Sufjan Stevens
  13. Cat Power
  14. CocoRosie
  15. Band of Horses
  16. Victory At Sea
  17. The Stumbler’s Inn
  18. The Magnetic Fields
  19. M. Ward
  20. Duke Ellington
  21. Elvis Costello
  22. Bloc Party
  23. Andrew Bird
  24. Joanna Newsom
  25. Django Reinhardt

Taking into account that neither the listening habits of my CDs on the home stereo nor my iPod in my pocket commuting to school are accounted for here (for example, Newsom would be much higher in the ranks) this is still pretty accurate. Although: who the heck is Jon Brion?

Jon Brion is a composter/musician who’s done work for Aimee Mann, and infamously that Fiona Apple album that got trashed and redone. He also scored films like Magnolia, and Eternal Sunshine.

I’m pretty sure Jon Brion did the music for I heart Huckabees.

He did do the music for I Heart Huckabees. An outstanding score, too.
