{"id":247,"date":"2005-04-22T15:46:38","date_gmt":"2005-04-22T15:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jeffwerner.ca\/wp\/?p=247"},"modified":"2013-03-07T18:03:52","modified_gmt":"2013-03-08T02:03:52","slug":"cost_of_bike_ra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jeffwerner.ca\/testa\/cost_of_bike_ra\/","title":{"rendered":"Cost of Bike Races vs. Squash Tournaments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After playing in a few squash tournaments this year, from the small, club-only events to this weekend&#8217;s provincial-level, 160-entry bash, I have attempted to sum up the discrepancies between entry fees for a squash tournament versus a bike race in British Columbia in the following diagram:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Squash vs. Cycling competition diagram\" src=\"https:\/\/jeffwerner.ca\/images\/journal\/squash_vs_cycling.gif\" width=\"531\" height=\"496\" class=\"noborder\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Squash<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pizza dinner<\/li>\n<li>Muffins, oranges and coffee breakfast<\/li>\n<li>Gala banquet dinner<\/li>\n<li>T-shirt<\/li>\n<li>Towel<\/li>\n<li>Beer keg<\/li>\n<li>Dancing at night club<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cycling<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You do not even get a free water bottle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I realize there are likely more variables in organizing a bike race: road closures, police escorts, feed stations, wheel vehicles, porta-pottie, etc., while a squash tournament takes place in pre-existing, designated indoor facilities.
