Friends of mine came by totally unexpected at like 9:30 tonight. Came onto my half-completed porch and banged on my kitchen window, a big chunk of which fell out (not their fault really), while I was doing dishes. Hopped into the Toyota and went to Lucky Bar for the best seven dollars I&#8217;ve ever spent. If you&#8217;ve seen Nardwuar on Much Music, or listened to his interviews on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citr.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">UBC&#8217;s CITR<\/a>, his live music show is exactly what you&#8217;d expect: 1.5 minute songs about eating cheese, cold war Canadian female spies, bullies in high school, all you can eat salad bars.<br \/>\nHe regularly cuts a swath through the crowd, inviting people to scream into the microphone and crowd surf him while playing the keyboard on your Dad&#8217;s saw horse. The band&#8217;s matching t-shirts featured red and white racing stripes with maple leafs. And copious amounts of Nardwuar&#8217;s back hair. The encore ends with them in matching polyester pyjamas, Nardwuar wielding a CBC microphone and getting the entire crowd to crouch down and jump into the air.<br \/>\nWhen is Nardwaur not like this?<br \/>\nThe opening band was pretty good, too: guitar, keyboard girl and long blond hair drummer. No base. Lead singer a Quebecois who hosts a radio show in French right before <a href=\"http:\/\/cfuv.finearts.uvic.ca\/soundcheck\/main.php\" target=\"_blank\">Soundcheck<\/a> on UVic&#8217;s CFUV.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just got back from seeing Nardwuar and his punk band, The Evaporators.
