Seahorses
One of the many amazing creatures featured in this photo gallery website dedicated to seahorses.
Swanksigns
A collection of funny public signs, a hobby we have all enjoyed at one time.
Pacer
This is a sweet ad for a sweet car.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Possibly the most exciting link this week: Wes Anderson (Rushmore, Royal Tennenbaums) has a new movie. It stars Bill Murray. Seeing as Rushmore is one of my top ten, that I just watched Le Grande Blue (a film about diving) this could prove to be a great film for me, as long as it doesn’t repeat itself too much, or try to be over-kitschy-yet-faux-sincere-and-kinda-free-floating like Tennenbaums was.
Camp Jeep
A Hummer shows up at a Jeep rally, gets high-centred, needs towing from a Jeep owner.
Maohai
A recording artist/actor with a LOT of body hair. Strange.
You have bad taste in music
This guy goes around to concerts with a bullhorn encouraging people to stop listening to [insert pop artist here]. Watch the Justin Timberlake / Christina… video, then watch the Linkin Park one. Kinda funny, kinda sad.
Genghis Khan got it on
The Wilt Chamberlain of medieval Asia: “It means around 8% of the population of the historical Mongol empire share a common male ancestor: Genghis Khan or his immediate ancestors.”
Aerial photography
I saw an large-scale exhibit of this photographer’s work (is it Yann Bertrand?) outside the national theatre in Amsterdam last year and am delighted to find these shots of his incredible aerial photography online.
The guy who does the Google logo holiday variations
Comic: Other People’s Stories: Deadlock
An excellent episode detailing the paradox of seeing a film you loathe with a girl you desire. Complex mathematics and neurosis; this episode is unique in that its main character is based on the real-life guy who did Fleep.
“Vintage” iPod, Gameboy, etc. ads
Learn how to tie a tie
I never knew the differences, or the intended purposes (such as expressing confidence or for work, or for show), between a Windsor, Half-Windsor, etc. Includes excellent diagrams and descriptions.
Every beer can from like every country
Jenny Holzer’s new work
Studied her provacative and undermining public billboard work in school. She has a new exhibit of more than 30 former National Security Archive secret documents, projected in monumental size on public buildings.
Bill Morrison, The Balloon Man
Appearently this guy had a public-access cable TV show (in the 70’s?), and this video is like a trailer for a film about him.
Santo Gold
Bizzarest of the infomercials? This site, which catalogues such things, would know.
White House West
A public campaign parody commercial with Will Ferrell.
Ben Katchor
Interesting and well-written comic strips.
